A Birthday Celebrating the Lives of Others

Raising Awareness about the Hungry and Homeless at St. Vincent de Paul

PHOENIX, AZ- For the first time in its 53-year history, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Phoenix, will be hosting a birthday party that will focus on someone other than the actual birthday boy or girl. Actually, this party will focus on many someones…the hungry and homeless across central and northern Arizona.

John Even, a partner with the law offices of Schmitt, Schneck, Smyth & Herrod, P.C., will be celebrating his 41st birthday at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul's Dan O'Meara Center on Thursday, May 6. Family and friends, both local and out-of-state residents, will be joining John for a tour of the facility, followed by lunch and birthday cake. By celebrating his birthday at the Society, John hopes his relatives, friends and business associates will discover the spirit of humility and goodwill found in every program and service that addresses the needs of the hungry and homeless across central and northern Arizona.

John's wife, Rebecca, explains, "We have donated money to the Society for a few years, but had never visited the facility. We were so amazed by the scope and magnitude of their work that we wanted to share the experience, hoping that our guests will be inspired to make a cash donation or serve as a volunteer."

"I especially wanted to share the experience with the members of my firm because we have sponsored St. Vincent de Paul's Adopt-a-Family program for two of the last three years,"says John. "For my family and me, it was the highlight of our Christmas season last year."

John, Rebecca and their three children are St. Thomas the Apostle parishioners. John is also on the Catholic Community Foundation's Estate Planning Committee, working to increase community awareness and financial support to various charities, including St. Vincent de Paul.
