Family generously feeds thousands for a day

The Villegas Martinez family understands the value of a meal.

At least three times a week, Martina and her husband, their two sons and her father enjoy dinner in our Family Dining Room. While the adults sit at the table, most days the kids are busy doing homework or reading at the Dream Center. The arrangement has benefited everybody.

"I don't know what we would do without the help we receive here at St. Vincent de Paul," Martina said. "We are so thankful. And we know the funds have to come from somewhere, so we thank the donors so much."

At St. Vincent de Paul, all of our meals are the product of the generosity of donors and the hard work of volunteers. Sometimes, a donor is so committed to helping us feed the hungry that they will give enough to sponsor all of the meals in our dining rooms for a day.

On Saturday, Nov. 8, thanks to a gift made in the memory of Loren Conry, the Villegas Martinez family and thousands of others don't have to go hungry. The Conry family is sponsoring our kitchen and all of our dining rooms on this special day, the anniversary of Loren's birth.

A proud Irish Catholic, Loren was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He was also active for many years in the St. Thomas the Apostle St. Vincent de Paul conference. A wonderful representative of our Society, Loren always put the needs of others above his own.

Although he left us more than 25 years ago, Loren's spirit is still very much alive, and his legacy of service continues in future generations.  His daughter, Kathy, is a Vincentian with St. Timothy's conference, and his granddaughter, Sarah, spent a summer working in Ozanam Manor, and another summer at our main campus on Watkins Rd, before beginning her graduate studies.
