In the summer months, St. Vincent de Paul gives out more than 4,000 bottles of water a day to people in need who seek services and refuge at the nonprofit during Arizona’s most grueling season. That's more than 2,300 gallons of water in one week.
That water doesn’t magically appear. Sometimes SVdP buys it in bulk. Just one week of water costs the nonprofit $3,500 (or $500 per day).
But other times community partners like ABC15, Bashas’ and Food City step up to help us meet this basic but critical need. They are teaming up again this year for the ABC15 Water Drive benefitting SVdP.
How to Donate:
All monetary donations will go toward purchasing water for SVdP guests.
Without the water donations on which SVdP water relief depends, people in need risk dehydration or worse – heat related illness that can quickly turn deadly. In 2020, Maricopa County saw more than 300 heat-associated deaths - the largest part of the nearly 500 reported statewide.
“Summer is such a challenging season for so many,” said Shannon Clancy, SVdP associate CEO. “As some of us escape indoors into air conditioning, let’s remember those who can’t escape the heat or who can’t afford higher utility bills during Arizona summers. A bottle of water is the first line of relief we can offer our neighbors in need, but St. Vincent de Paul can only do so through the help, compassion and generosity of our community. We are grateful to ABC15 and Bashas’ for making this opportunity and water drive possible.”
“Access to fresh water is critical for survival. Not just during hot summer months but also during emergency response situations,” said Edward “Trey” Basha, president and CEO of Bashas’ Family of Stores. “St. Vincent de Paul provides invaluable support for first responders on the frontline of disasters, while also ensuring that families across Arizona have the lifesaving clean water they need.”
“No secret, Arizona summers are hot - the gift of water can truly be the difference between life and death,” said Anita Helt, vice president and general manager at ABC15. “It is our privilege to assist St. Vincent de Paul with their mission; to help our neighbors in need.”
Last year the ABC15 Water Drive topped one million bottles of life-saving water. Help us cover the entire heat season again, and keep people alive.
