In the summer months, St. Vincent de Paul gives out more than 5,700 bottles of water a day to people in need who seek services and refuge at the nonprofit during Arizona’s most grueling season. That's more than 5,200 gallons of water in one week.
That water doesn’t magically appear. Sometimes SVdP buys it in bulk. Just one week of water costs the nonprofit $5,506.20 (or $786.60 per day).
But other times community partners like ABC15, Bashas’ and Food City step up to help us meet this basic but critical need. They are teaming up again this year for the ABC15 Water Drive from June 1-30 benefitting SVdP.
How to Donate:
All monetary donations will go toward purchasing water for SVdP guests.
Without the water donations on which SVdP water relief depends, people in need risk dehydration or worse – heat related illness that can quickly turn deadly. In 2021, Maricopa County saw more than 330 heat-associated deaths with a significant number of whom were people experiencing homelessness.
“We’ve all seen the increase in need in our community as more people have lost their homes and live on the street,” said Shannon Clancy, SVdP Associate CEO. “With the heat here, we know more lives are at stake and water is one of the most immediate ways we can help. That’s why the ABC15 Water Drive is critical to St. Vincent de Paul’s work, as we deliver this life-saving resource to some of our community’s most vulnerable. We’re incredibly grateful to ABC15 and Bashas’ for being some of the first community partners to take action for our 100 Days of Summer [100days.stvincentdepaul.net] initiative that invites people into our mission during this toughest season. But we hope more people will join them by donating and helping us get water to those whose lives are counting us.”
“Access to fresh water is critical for survival. Not just during hot summer months but also during emergency response situations,” said Edward “Trey” Basha, president and CEO of Bashas’ Family of Stores. “St. Vincent de Paul provides invaluable support for first responders on the frontline of disasters, while also ensuring that families across Arizona have the lifesaving clean water they need.”
Last year the ABC15 Water Drive topped one million bottles of life-saving water. Help us cover the entire heat season again, and keep people alive.

We prepare and serve 4,000 meals every day in our 5 dining rooms. Give today to help us provide hot, nourishing meals for our hungry neighbors.
