Local muralist beautifies SVdP shelters

Jesse Perry united community members and residents to paint vibrant murals and think big picture inspiration

After muralist Jesse Perry, also known as "@mrdowntownphx", toured St. Vincent de Paul, he knew it was the perfect place where he could create in community, share his painterly talent, and leave a lasting message of hope for those living in shelter.

Jesse had just received a grant from the City of Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture allowing him to paint three community-driven murals at a nonprofit of his choosing. He chose SVdP and soon found the perfect spots for the murals in De Paul Manor and Rosalie's Place, both part of SVdP's Interim Housing Communities.

In the final week of 2025, his vision for the three murals came to life on the walls at SVdP. The beautiful murals are bright, vibrant pictures that feature Arizona birds and desert landscapes paired with uplifting messages like, “We’re all in this together” and “Common unity equals community.”

On a smaller wall, he created a set of wings in the SVdP color pallet. The wings are intended to stand in front of for a picture on the day residents graduate into permanent housing, although the wings already have broader appeal. Many people have photographed themselves in front of them already purely to document a moment of confidence, strength, positivity and hopefulness.

Jesse made the painting process extra meaningful by inviting residents, staff, friends, and even our CEO, Shannon Clancy, to help paint alongside him.

"Thank you so much for letting me share my story and talents with the residents, volunteers and employees of your organization," Jesse said. "I can’t tell you how much it has meant to me to contribute to your mission and take part in giving back to my community!"

Together, the art and words reflect hope, freedom, and the shared journey toward stability.
