Shadae and Jacqueline

After struggling on arrival, a family of newcomers finds rest

"It was rough when we got here. Probably the first 2-3 weeks," Shadae said.

They had just moved to Arizona, but didn't have a place to stay. They were in hotels for the time being, but they were expensive, and Shadae's resources were quickly draining. They didn't know what they were going to do.

That's when Shadae's mom, Jacqueline, knew who they should reach out to: SVdP. The local brance in the Carolinas had helped Jacqueline out when she was in her twenties, so she had confidence they would be able to help her family.

As it turns out, Jacqueline was right! The social workers at SVdP's Resource Center were able to work with Shadae and her family to find them housing, then furnish it through SVdP's Home Furnishings program, allowing them to rest in their new home instead of worrying about how to afford beds for their kids.

"To me, SVdP, God sent ya'll," Jacqueline said. "And ya'll abide by it."

The SVdP Home Furnishing Program series is brought to you by SVdP's Bruce Cooper and Chris Peterson.
